Rachel Gedye: "There will never be a perfect time."

Recently, a group of qualified trainers completed the Ab Factory Ultimate Role Model Challenge. Not only did they put themselves in their clients' shoes and make themselves fully accountable to us, but their “big reveal” performances were also live-streamed directly into their Facebook community pages. This is their story.

Transformation Specialist: Rachel Gedye

Business Name: Powerful Bodies

What made you decide to enter the Role Model Challenge?

I wanted to step up and really push myself to be a better role model for my clients and everyone else around me who was watching. I also decided to do it to show myself that I could level up. I could be better and no matter what happened, I was going to stick to it.

What was the message you wanted to get across with your big reveal?

Life is messy. Every corner you turn and obstacle you conquer, you will be smacked in the face with something even bigger and more conflicting than you've ever faced before. A lot of people let life get them down and blame the way they look/feel and act on the people around them and what they've been through. That used to be me. But in the last 2 years I've wanted to change that about myself because I knew that was really getting me down and not helping me be the best version of myself. I want to show people that there is no excuse to be lazy or abuse your body just because you're going through something. If you want a life worth living and you want to get the best out of life, that's totally on YOU!

Rachel has worked hard to be a good role model for her clients

If you could give the previous "you" from six months ago one piece of advice, what would it be?

Life is full of segways and when you're on the road to something great, temptation and distractions will jump out at you. Are you going to let all the hard work you've done be undone by allowing people who are toxic back into your life? Is it worth it? No!

What were the main things you learnt/overcame during this challenge?

People tell me all the time how much they want to change their body shape and look like this or look like that, but no one is ready to do the work to get there. This year has been a year where I have sacrificed a lot. Building the body that I want, isn't going to happen in 3 months or even a year. It's going to take a while and accepting that has been hard. I've been chipping away bit by bit, only to get a breadcrumb of what's to come later. That has been the biggest mental merry go round I've experienced. But it's all been worth it. I know that I have what it takes to continue on this journey

Tell us something about you that no one knows?

Earlier this year, I dealt with a very personal and traumatic event. It tore my life apart for a very long time. It affected me right to my core and everything suffered. My work, health, relationships and it took a long time to heal, to trust anyone and to gather myself back together again. I had pretty severe anxiety, depression and some very bad thoughts that were racing through my mind on the daily.

It was the toughest time of my life and I really don't know if I would be here today if I didn't have my partner and my coach to help me through it. But they only reminded me of who I was, I had to pull myself out of a hole and choose to move on. This was something that took months to get over. These moments in life though are the ones that make you or break you. I broke. But I also healed and moved on. And that's okay.

Rachel went live inside her Facebook community page to perform her big reveal for her clients

I've spent a whole year working on me. Working to be a better me. I've had to face a lot of the poor qualities that I have and try and work on them so I can progress to be a better person. Everyone has them but people often refuse to acknowledge them, and choose to blame others and circumstances out of their control to make up for their bad behaviour/habits. That's a fact.

I've put myself in my clients’ shoes and have taken the journey myself. I want to be able to coach and push my clients through those tricky times in life, because it happens. That's life and there will never be a perfect time to change your body shape or work on you. You have to roll with the punches, have a cry and then move on.

Life is a bitch and you will get smacked in the face by it. But the way you soldier on defines you, and how you turn out.

Rach :)
